[17.09.08] Leisel Jones swims from Blue Water to ‘Green Diesel’ with HyundaiHyundai is delighted to announce that the Olympic triple gold medallist, World Champion and record holder Leisel Jones has joined forces with the company as its ‘Green Diesel’ Ambassador.
“The Hyundai brand has come a long way in a short time,” Leisel commented. “I am really impressed with Hyundai’s positive approach to the environment through showcasing its CRDi ‘Green Diesel’ technology in various events around Australia. I have been driving an i30 since the lead up to the Beijing Olympics and I’m glad to be back in it again.”

Hyundai has seen sales of its i30 hatch continue to grow with Diesel engine variants representing around 60% of sales in the last 3 months. Last weekend a production i30 CRDi ‘Green Diesel’ won its class in the 2008 QUIT Targa West tarmac rally staged in Perth.
“We have been looking for a high profile environmentally conscious Australian personality to work with us on our ‘Green Diesel’ program,” said Kevin McCann, Hyundai’s Director of Sales and Marketing. “We have some of the most fuel efficient and environmentally friendly Diesel cars and Leisel shares our goal of making Australia a more environmentally conscious society.”
Leisel will be appearing on Hyundai’s stand at the upcoming 2008 Australian International Motor Show in Sydney, as well as future ‘Green Diesel’ themed events currently being developed by Hyundai.

In her third Olympic Games, Leisel won a gold medal in the 100 m Breaststroke achieving a new Olympic record, a silver medal in the 200 m Breastroke and a gold medal in the 4 × 100m medley relay smashing the previous world record.
Leisel has broken 14 world records.
Leisel was the youngest member of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Swimming Team and the youngest ever Olympic medallist in Australia’s history when she won silver in the 100m Breaststroke and 4×100m Medley Relay. At 18 years, Leisel brought home Olympic gold, silver and bronze and set a new World Record with the medley relay team at the 2004 Athens Games.
Leisel has won seven World Championship titles, seven Commonwealth Games gold medals and 21 National titles. She is currently the world record holder for the 100m breaststroke event and is a member of the world record team for the 4 × 100m medley relay (plus holds the short course world records in the 100m and 200m breaststroke events).
In 2006 Leisel was named World Swimming Magazine’s Swimmer of the Year. At the 2006 Commonwealth Games Leisel became the first woman in history to complete the 50m Breastroke, 100m Breastroke and 200m Breastroke treble, was named Swimmer of the Meet and was honoured to be selected as the 427 strong Australian team flag bearer at the Closing Ceremony.
The Confederation of Australia Sport awarded her the 2005 & 2006 Australian Female Athlete of the Year. Leisel was named the 2005 World Female Swimmer of the Year, 2006 Suncorp Metway Young Queenslander of the Year, 2006 Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards (Most Popular Sports Person), and the Australian public voted her the 2006 Telstra People’s Choice Award (first female ever)!
As well as an i30 CRDi, Leisel’s garage is home to a Santa Fe CRDi, which is shared with her fiancĂ© Marty Pask.
